FRIZLEN delivers 39 load resistors as largest single order in company's history

In July 2024, FRIZLEN successfully completed the largest single order in its 110-year history. A total of 39 load resistors from the new FSKZVR series were delivered to a German state authority.

Our customer will use the load resistors in the field of civil defence and disaster control for testing emergency power generators. In 2023 FRIZLEN was able to win the public tender for mobile load resistors by offering a robust and at the same time economical solution.

‘For this tender our customer had specified a device that could withstand the harsh conditions of everyday service in civil protection,’ says Armin Volzer, product manager at FRIZLEN. ’We designed a suitable, very robust device for these requirements that is deliberately simple but stable in construction.’

The load resistor has a maximum power of 100 kW. It is therefore suitable for so-called 50% load tests for power generators up to a maximum of 200 kVA. Partial loads of 10, 20, 20 and 50 kW can be set on the load resistor. In addition, a second load resistor can be connected to the device, so that a maximum of 200 kW of electrical load can be applied.

‘We opted for a robust contactor circuit and completely avoided complicated electronic controls,’ says Armin Volzer. “Because a simple design of the device was very important to us and our customer”. The new load resistor uses a highly stable tubular frame made of stainless steel as the load-bearing element, which can be easily transported by forklift.

Delivering these 39 load resistors in addition to the normal production workload was a particular challenge for FRIZLEN in this major order. ‘I am pleased and proud that our FRIZLEN team has mastered this major project so well,’ says managing partner Alexander Horn.

Load resistors are used to load gensets in order to test them regularly. In addition, if a genset has been running at low speeds for a longer period of time, it should then be run in the upper load range afterwards. This reduces wear on the genset, prevents deposits in the exhaust system and ensures its availability when it is needed.

For this application, FRIZLEN offers a wide range of load resistors for both stationary and mobile use.
